THE LITTLESTOWN
BICENTENNIAL idea was conceived
in the minds of the directors of the Littlestown Chamber
of Commerce in 1962. A general chairman was appointed
in the person of Melvin L. Houston, proprietor of Houston's
Grocery Store, 25 South Queen Street.
Melvin did not live to see his
dream come true, but someone among the 'powers that
be' was lending a great deal of assistance throughout
the planning and staging of the Bicentennial Celebration
and we like to think that Mel Houston was using his
influence 'up there' on our behalf.
The Celebration was planned for
August 1 trough August 7, 1965.
Appropriately, with the Chamber
as the guiding organization for the Bicentennial Celebration,
the actual kick-off took place in conjunction with
the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet on May 12, 1965
in St Aloysius Catholic Hall.
