Oldest Town in What is now Adams County


The oldest town in Adams County is difficult to decipher, depending on the criteria that you use. There are five towns that are very close in the dates that they were laid out. They are Hunterstown -1749, Abbottstown - 1755, East Berlin - 1764, McSherrystown - 1765 and Littlestown - 1765. If you consider the area that had someone settle in that area first then it would be Littlestown with Andrew Shriver settling just outside of what would become Littlestown in 1734.
