The year was 1908 and the Ladies
were smartly attired in dresses that gave them a smi-hourglass
waist, and some daring damsels wore their dresses so that
their ankles were visible with pratically every step. Young
men wore their trousers tight at the ankles and straw hats
blossomed on both men and women. The trolley line was going
to be completed so that local folk could get to the Hanover
Fair. A whole raft of leaders, the burgess, bankers and
members of the Council were among those on the first passenger
list. Twenty passengers per car was the limit and for the
Fair, special cars ran almost every half hour were jamed.
At first the line came only to the edge of the town, but
it was later extended to the center of the town and later
cars held thirty passengers. The trolleyvisited back and
forth from Littlestown to McSherrystown to Hanover, and
one change over in Hanover and continue to York, This line
was in service until 1932 when the increasing use of the
automobile caused it to be abandoned. They switched to
buses, which continued until 1954.
