WELK MILL

Pictures taken by Don Lindsey - June 2007

Welk Mill located on Matthias Road, was originally a lumber mill in the 1800’s. Later it was converted to a flour mill. In the Early 1920s the mill was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Oliver M. Matthias and converted into a tomato canning factory operated from 1923 to 1956. The tomatoes were packed as Top Line Brand. In 1957 the factory was sold to their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harner and changed into a chicken business and operated from 1958-1963. (Information Contributed by Darla Seal.)
